D. E. (Deak) Wegner, 61, Dies Wednesday Morning
D. E. (Deak) Wegner, 61, of Onaga, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning in Community Hospital. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Wegner was doing his evening chores when he became ill and was rushed to the hospital where he passed away a few hours later.
He was born on a farm near Onaga February 27, 1902. He was actively engaged in farming at the time of this death. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Men's Club of that church and was serving as Treasurer of Vienna Township.
Survivors included his wife, Marie, of the home, and a son, Ronnie, also of the home; seven brothers, Mefir, Eckhart, ElRoy and Rando, all of Onaga, Erwin of Wamego, Oliver of Portland, Ore., and Quincy of Wilson, Kans.; and four sisters, Mrs. Nada Knipp of Vermillion, Mrs. Delta Hodge of Onaga, Mrs. Delia Hays of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Orlene Wahl of Blaine.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Duluth at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27. Interment will be in Onaga cemetery.

Mr. Dietrich E. Wegner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Wegner, was born February 27, 1902, on a farm near Onaga, Kansas. He was baptized in the name of the Triune God, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, west of Onaga, March 30, 1902. Here he received his Christian training and was received into communicant membership with St. Luke by the rite of confirmation, April 16, 1916.
February 17, 1926 he took the hand of Marie M. Graf to be his devoted spouse in Holy wedlock. This union was blessed with two sons, Kenneth Edward and Ronnie Lee.
Dietrich lived around Onaga all his life and was actively engaged in farming. He also was interested in township and community affairs.
When St. Luke Lutheran was moved to the town of Wheaton from the country he and his family transferred their membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1949.
Last Tuesday evening Dietrich became seriously ill around chore time and was rushed to the local hospital, where he passed away after midnight at the age of 61 years, one month and 21 days.
His parents and son, Kenneth Edward, preceded him in death. Dietrich is the first of the brothers and sisters, eight boys and four girls, to pass away, and join his parents and son in heaven.
He leaves to mourn his falling asleep in Jesus his loving wife and son, Ronnie, of the home, the seven brothers, four sisters and many nieces and nephews.
The brothers are Mefir A. of Onaga; Erwin of Wamego; Oliver of Portland, Oregon; Quincy of Wilson, Kansas; Elroy, Eckhart and Rando of Onaga. The sisters; Mrs. Nada Knipp of Vermillion; Mrs. Delta Hodge of Onaga; Mrs. Delia Hayes of Phoenix, Arizona and Mrs. Orlene Wahl of Blaine. Also a host of neighbors and friends.
