Funeral services for Mefir A. (Mike) Wegner, 68, of Onaga, were held at 10:30 Monday morning at St. Paul's Lutheran chruch at Duluth cemetery. He died Thursday in the Veterans hospital at Topeka after a long illness. He was born August 31, 1896 near Onaga and was a farmer south of here until about 1948 when he and his family moved into town. He drove the Onaga school bus for a number of years. Mr. Wegner was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran church at Duluth, Onaga Barracks No. 2257, Veterans of World War I, American Legion Post No. 85 and the Onaga Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Adeline, of the home; a son, Virgil Wegner of Oxnard, Calif., and Mrs Virginia Swisher of Ventura, Calif.; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Erwin Wegner, Wamego; Oliver Wegner, Portland, Oregon; Quincy Wegner, Emporia, Elroy Wegner and Rando Wegner, both of Onaga; and four sisters, Mrs Nada Knipp, Vermillion; Mrs. Delta Hodge, Onaga, Mrs. Delia Hayes Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs Orlean Wahl, Blaine.

Obituary-M. A. Wegner
Mr. Mefir August Wegner, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Wegner, was born August 31, 1896 on a farm near Onaga, Kans. He was baptized at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, west of Onaga, October 4, 1896. He received Christian training and was received into communicant membership with St. Luke by the rite of confirmation. On September 11, 1918, he enlisted in the United States Army and received his honorable discharge in April 1919.
On February 1, 1924 he took the hand of Miss Adeline Laura Zabel to be his devoted wife in holy wedlock. This union was blessed with three children; one son, Virgil Charles, and two daughters, Emmogene Marie and Virginia Lee.
Mefir, better known as Mike, lived south of Onaga for many years where he was engaged in farming. He moved to Onaga in December 1948, and drove a school bus for several years until he retired a few years ago. He was active in community and city affairs and served as a councilman for three terms.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Duluth; also a member of St. Paul's Men's Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post, No. 85, where he was a Past Commander; a member of the Onaga Lions Club and a member of the Onaga Barracks No. 2257 Veterans of World War I.
Mike passed away on August 12, 1965, in Topeka Veterans Hospital at the age of 68 years 11 months and 12 days.
His parents and two brothers, Deitrich and Eckart, and a infant granddaughter, Annette Louise Swisher, preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Adeline; a son, Virgil of Antioch, Calif.; two daughters, Emmogene, Turner of Oxnard, Calif.; and Virginia Swisher of Ventura, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Janie Lee and Charles Wegner, Antioch, Calif.; Pfc. Michael D. Fairbanks of Fairbanks, Alaska, Dawn, Carolyn and Susan Fairbanks of Oxnard, Calif., and Rebecca Swisher of Ventura, Calif. A daughter-in-law and two son-in-law; five brothers, Erwin of Wamego, Oliver of Portland, Ore, Quincy of Emporia, Elroy and Rando of Onaga; four sisters, Mrs. Nada Knipp of Vermillion, Mrs. Delia Hayes of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Orlene Wahl of Blaine, many nieces, nephews and other relatives, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services were held on August 16 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Duluth with burial in the Onaga Cemetery.
