Orlene Alvera Wahl, 92, of Westmoreland, Kansas, died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Westy Community Care Home. She was a life-long resident of the area.

Orlene was born January 7, 1919, on the family farm, south west of Onaga, Kansas, the daughter of Ferdinand and Marie Bosse Wegner. She attended local schools.

Orlene worked for 23 years at the Dechario Hospital in Westmoreland. During that time, in 1968, she attended Manhattan Area Technical College and received her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate. Her class was the second graduating LPN class from the college. Orlene was also a farm wife and homemaker. She loved to quilt and enjoyed sewing. She especially enjoyed making things for her family and spending time with them. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton and a charter member of the Sunflower Club.

Orlene married Glenn Charles Wahl on August 4, 1937, in rural Onaga. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1996.

Orlene is survived by her three daughters, Glenda Colson, Garden City, Elvera Bergsten and her husband, David, Wamego and Darlene Sutton and her husband, Kenny, Berryton; ten grandchildren, Rodney Colson, Jon Colson and his wife, Nicole, David Colson and his wife, Janet, Bart Plummer and his wife, Kimberly, Lamar Bergsten and his wife, Corey, Melissa Van Dusen and her husband, Ryan, Tony Sutton and his wife, Abbie, Travis Sutton and his wife, Michelle, Jake Sutton and his wife, Athena, and Brett Sutton and his wife, Amy; nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton. Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating. Burial will follow at Wheaton Congregational Cemetery.
