Korean Royalty. Born Yi Cheok, Emperor Sunjong was the second and last Emperor of the Korean Empire (1907-1910). He had a relatively short reign due to the Japan-Korea Treaty of 1907 and then the annexation of Korea in 1910; he was forced to abdicate and ended the Korean Empire. After his abdication, he lived imprisoned with his wife, Empress Sunjeong, in the Changdeokgung Palace for the rest of his life. During this time he was allowed the title of "King Yi of the Changdeok Palace." He died childless on the 24 April 1926 and was buried at Imperial tomb of Yureung with his two wives.
