Obituary for Joe Tom Reames

Joe Tom Reames, 83, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away at 2:08 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Joe was born July 27, 1928, in Pope County, Illinois, to Clarence and Missouri Reames.

He grew up in Pope County in the town of Rock.

Mr. Reames was stationed in Japan, while serving in the U.S. Army in the 111th Airborne Division, as a paratrooper, during the Korean Conflict, where he also played football.

Joe loved the Lord and preaching. He attended SIU with a desire to go to the Seminary. He was also a sprint car driver and his race car was named "The Flying Irishman". He was a lover of sports, football, and taking care of his family.

He was an iron worker and was an upstanding member of the Painters Union Local # 32 for over 40 years. Joe then retired from SIU in 2000. He also owned and operated Murphysboro Ice Plant for many years.

Joe married Linda Kay Fisher on December 11, 1976, in Marion, Illinois, and she survives.

Other survivors include seven children Kathy and Danny Mayhugh, Lavina and Mike Thomas, all of Carterville, Illinois, Joey Reames and his special friend Vanita, of Forks, Washington, and Mike and Kim McCall, Rhonda and Jerry Collier, Neil McCall, and Angie and Kevin Deaton, all of Murphysboro; fourteen grandchildren Derek McCall, Jacob McCall, Emilie Collier, Justin Collier, Kasey Deaton, Kody Deaton, Kelsey Deaton, Tiffany McCall, Amy Gentry, Chad Burkes, Mollie Thomas, Tyler Thomas, Destiny Reames, and Austin Reames; eleven great grandchildren; one sister Rosebud and Loy Cletcher of Bartonville, Illinois;
many cousins, nieces, and nephews; best friend Bo Piquard;
and his four-legged kids Rascal and Riley.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Rodney and Randal Reames, one sister Rachel Modglin, and his parents.
