Clarence R. Reames, age 94, who lived with his daughter, Mrs. Rachel Modglin, at 107 Harrison Road, Bartonville, IL, died there at 5:25 p. m. Sunday, February 18, 1990.

Born November 7, 1895 in Pope County, to Thomas and Amanda Broadway Reames, he married Missouri Kerley at Rock community, December 2, 1917. She died March 31, 1986 in Bartonville.

Two grandchildren, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

He taught school for 33 years and was a lifetime farmer in Pope, Johnson and Union counties until retiring. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist church in the Rock community.

Surviving are three sons, Rodney Clarence, Fairview Heights, Randel Ray, Lake Station, Ind., and Joseph Thomas of Murphysboro; two daughters, Mrs. Rachel Modglin, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Loy E. ( Rosebud) Cletcher, also of Bartonville; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one step great-great-granddaughter and two sisters, Mrs. Emily Broadway and Mrs. Faye Miner, both of Fairview Heights.

Services were held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday at his church with the Rev. Richie Slack officiating. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p. m. Friday at Aly Funeral Home, Eddyville. Pallbearers were C. W. Modglin, C. R. Reames, Brian Modglin, Scott Cherry, L. E. Cletcher, Bill Reames, Benny Joe Ward and Mike McCall. Memorials may be made to his church.

"My dad, Clarence Reames, taught Rock School in 1924-25 and again in 1941. Other schools he taught during his 33 year teaching career were: his first school taught was Old Home School ( it was his home school where he had attended), Allard College Grade School; William Shed for two years ( with 60 students in attendance), Flatwoods ( two different times once in the 1920’s and again in 1938), Leach, Grasty ( 3 yrs.), Grisham (1 yr.), Robbs ( where he served as principle from 1935 –1937), Eddyville 1 year, Mill Creek, Rock (one year two different times), McKee and Mt. Pleasant. He taught another school out by Anna, I forgot its name. Lingle School near Mill Creek. Two of his grandchildren were in attendance at Lingle."
