Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home Carterville - Hazel L. Wells, 87, of Carterville, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Herrin Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Revs. T.J. Gentry and Brad Harlow officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m., in Shedville Cemetery in Brownfield. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Carterville First Baptist Church or to Boskydell Baptist Church. Hazel was born on May 16, 1930, in Pope County, to Luther and Mollie (Parks) Trammell. She married Joe Reames and together they had three children, Cathy, Lavina and Joey. She later married William “Bill” Wells Jr. on January 13, 1977. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2009. She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy (Danny) Mayhugh and Lavina (Mike) Thomas, all of Carterville; son and daughter-in-law, Joey (Bonita Cleveland) Reames of Forks, Washington; grandchildren and their spouses, Amy (T.J.) Gentry, Chad (Holly) Burks, Destiny (John) Gresham, Austin Reames, Tyler (Marlena) Thomas, and Mollie Thomas; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; sister, Mildred Mathais; and brothers, Charlie, Will, Eurple, Lowell, Wayne, and Harley Trammell. In her earlier years, she was a teller for Carbondale National Bank and had worked at Boren’s IGA in Carbondale. For more than 20 years, Hazel had served as a nanny for Dr. Brian and Millie McElheny. Hazel was a faithful 40 year member of Boskydell Baptist Church. She also attended First Baptist Church in Carterville. She enjoyed playing cards, especially “Hand & Foot”, every Friday. Hazel was a people person who never met a stranger. Children and flowers gave her such joy.
