Gertrude A. Nost, 87, of Amana, formerly of Martelle, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Colonial Manor Care Center, Amana, following an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Anamosa, by the Rev. LaVerne Beener. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.
Gertrude A. Gerdes was born Aug. 11, 1913 in Cass Township, Jones County. She was the daughter of Garrett and Louise Andreesen Gerdes. She graduated from Anamosa High School with the class of 1932. She was united in marriage with Harry E. Nost on Sept. 7, 1940, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Anamosa. She taught school for 31 years, retiring in 1977. The last 20 years she taught second grade at Martelle. Before that, she taught in Morley and rural Linn and Jones one-room schools. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Pythian Sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia (Ginny) Peet of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn (Arlen) Holcomb of Martelle and Jan (Ron) Delaney of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren: four sisters, Joyce Joslyn of Coralville, Frances Brodersen of Olin, Marie Till of Bellevue and Helen (Ralph) Bender of Tustin, Calif; and a brother, Garrett (Jan) Gerdes of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry in 1983; two brothers, Al and Louie; and a sister, Claire Hayes.
The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to the staff at Colonial Manor in Amana for their loving care.
