GERHARD GERDES DIES ON DEC. 25
Funeral Services Held Monday at St. Paul

Gerhard William Gerdes, 70, Anamosa, died Friday evening, Dec. 25, at Mercy hospital where he had been a patient for four days.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran church, Anamosa. Rev. James A. Siefkes officiated. Burial was in Forest cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa was in charge of arrangements.
Life Outlined
He was born July 24, 1889, son of John and Anna Siebels Gerdes, in Cass township. He was married to Louise Andreesen, May 7, 1913 at the home of the bride's parents in Jackson township.
Couple farmed in Jones county all their married life together. He was active in the Lutheran church and had served on boards and committees for several years.
Survivors Listed
Survivors include, his wife, Louise; three sons, Alfred Gerdes, Coralville, Louie Gerdes, Maquoketa, and Garret Gerdes, Anamosa.
Other survivors include six daughters, Gertrude, Mrs. Harry Nost, Martelle; Frances, Mrs. William Brodersen, Olin; Marie, Mrs. Gerald Schoon, Manchester; Clare, Mrs. John Hayes, Arcata, Calif.; Helen, Mrs. Ralph Bender, Santa Ana, Calif.; and Joyce, Mrs Richard Joslin, Manchester; and 19 grandchildren.
Others include two brothers, Carl Gerdes, Langworthy, and Alva Gerdes, Amber; and one sister, Mrs. Grace Otten, Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
