Ella Mae Martin of Childress and a Wellington native, died Monday, November 26, 2001. She was 73 years of age.
Funeral services were held at 2 pm Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at the Wellington Church of the Nazarene with Rev James Ikner, pastor, officiating. Burial was in North Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Dale Tarver, Don Sanderson, Wesley Cash, Matt Martin, Weldon Bayer, Terrance Murphy, Tom Adams and Errol Schrick.
Born August 28, 1928 in Wellington to Mel and Ida Queen Austin, she attended school at Wellington, the Greenbelt School of Vocational Nursing in Vernon and Amarillo College. She was a retired LVN having worked many years at the Foard County Hospital and the Crowell Nursing Center.
She was a longtime resident of Crowell, moving to Chidress in November of 2000 to be near family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Crowell.
She married J W Martin Jr, on July 12, 1946 in Memphis. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by two sons, J W Martin III in 1960 and Jerry Martin in 1991 and by a daughter, Ethel Diane Martin in 1954 and by two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Don Martin and wife, Teresa, of Quanah; James Martin and wife, Karlyn of Muenster; two daughters, Saunna Blacksher and husband, Joe of Wellington and Martha Hawkins and husband, Johnny of Vernon;
A sister, Modene Horton of Wellington; three brothers, Jerry Austin of Childress, T D Austin of Amarillo and J C Austin of Plainview; Grandchidren, Jodi and Dale Tarver, Hattie and Don Sanderson, Wesley Cash, Marsha Cash, Kerri Ann Cash, Matt Martin, Halee Martin, Weldon and Loren Bayer, Jeff Hermes and Melissa Osborne and Great-grandchildren, Ashley, Sadie and Candace Tarver; Samantha and Tale Sanderson; Chance Bradley, Dameon Cash, Mathew and Alex Osborne; Emily Kay and Corbin James Bayer.
The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be made to the Cottage Village Memorial Fund in care of Cottage Village in Childress.
