WELLINGTON — Una Modene Austin Horton, 101, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011. in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Tims, retired Baptist minister of Chickasha, Okla, officiating and Tommy Lynn McGarry and Karl Barnett assisting. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.

Mrs. Horton was born Feb. 7, 1910, in Hobart, Okla., to Demetrius "Met" and Gertrude Penn Austin. Modene came with her family to Collingsworth County in 1922. She married Malcolm Horton in 1926, in the Lillie Community. She was very creative and talented. She was an excellent seamstress and created and quilted beautiful quilts, one of which is on display at the Collingsworth County Courthouse.

Modene was a charter member of the Lillie Home Demonstration Club and the RSVP in Wellington.

Una Modene was a servant and caregiver to many in the community. She loved the Lord, her family, and the community.

Una Modene loved her four girls; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. She delighted in her family and treasured everyone.

Modene was a member of the Lillie Baptist Church until it dissolved in 1976. At that time, she joined the First Baptist Church in Wellington, in which she served as Sunday school teacher, in the WMU, and any capacity that she could to serve the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Ellen Younger; two brothers; and four sisters.

Modene is survived by four daughters, Maxine McGarry of Oklahoma City, Ladonna Barnett and Rose Mary Younger, both of Amarillo, and Shirley Lively and husband John of Wellington; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Austin of Childress; several nieces and nephews; and all of her friends in Collingsworth County.

The family suggests memorials be to Home Delivered Meals of Wellington or the Wellington Cemetery Association.
