Alonzo Murrell Mitchem was the 9th and youngest child of Murrell J. Mitchem and Elizabeth Arnold Mitchem of Morgan Co., GA. On 9/7/1875 he married Lucy Verona Arnold, a daughter of William Bailey Arnold and Martha Laura Lewis Arnold (and granddaughter of James Bailey Arnold and Malinda Sparks Arnold). Alonzo and Lucy Mitchem were the parents of ten children, all born in Morgan County, GA: (1) Byron Eugene Mitchem 1/9/1878 - 9/12/1903 (m. Addie Belle Doster); (2) James Carter Mitchem 2/7/1881 - 3/15/1913 (never married); (3) Edgar William Mitchem 1/13/1884 - 1/8/1925 (m. Minnie Hester); (4) Viola Victoria Mitchem 5/2/1886 - (m. David LeSeuer, Jr.); (5) Ralph McKinley Mitchem 10/25/1888 - 6/23/1965 (m. Claudean Hester); (6) Laurene Mitchem 3/26/1891 - 2/26/1930 (m.
