Inga's parents, Johan and Mathea Iverson, immigrated from Norway in 1882. Soon after their arrival in Minnesota, Johan changed his name to John Balken. (See Minnesota 1885 Census). Many of their daughters continued to use Iverson into adulthood and marriage. At her marriage, Inga used Iverson her maiden name. Later on in other documents, such as death certificates, Balken was used, (sometimes misspelled as Balkin.)

Funeral services for Inga Hegseth, 77, of 46 Florence Street, Seattle, Washington, will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, April 15, 1964 at Hoffners Fisher-Kalfus Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery,.
Inga died Saturday, April 11, 1964 in Seattle. Inga was born at home by rural Rothsay MN, to John and Mathea Balken, the sixth of thirteen children. She married Peter Hegseth January 20 1909 in Wilkin County. They moved to Dooley Montana around 1910-1911 where they operated a store and post office. Peter, Inga and their young family moved to Washington in 1922. Inga worked as a presser in a dry cleaner. Peter died in 1960.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Mathea Balken, her husband Peter Hegseth, her children , Jenkins Hegseth, Dooliette Hegseth; her siblings,, Halvor Balken, Iver Balken, Martha Zimmerman, Caroline Amundson, Edwin Balken, Albert Balken, and Clara Barks.
Survivors include a son, Maynard Hegseth, daughters, Beatrice Hegseth and Mrs. Donald (Marjorie) Stotts, all of Seattle, and Mrs. Sidney (Charlotte) Johnson, Santa Monica, CA; three brothers, Julius (Emma) Balken, Rothsay MN; Oscar (Mary) Balken, Breckenridge, MN; and Ted (Betty) Balken, Spokane, WA; two sisters, Alice Erickson, Minneapolis, MN and Helga Stras, Seal Beach, CA; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her exact obituary was printed in the Seattle times Tuesday, April 14, 1964.
