Peter was born to Tosten and Mali (Evjen) Hegseth in Oscar Township, rural Fergus Falls, MN on July 7, 1882. He married Inga Iverson/Balken on January 20, 1909. Their first child, Jenkins, was born in Oscar Township in Minnesota. By 1911, the young family had moved to Plentywood, Montana. Maynard and Beatrice were born. The town was renamed to Dooley. Dooliette was the first baby born in Dooley, followed by Charlotte and Marjorie. Peter and Inga owned and operated a store and became the first Postmaster in Dooley.
The family moved in 1922 to Seattle, Washington. Peter worked in construction and was a retired millworker.
His daughter Dooliette preceeded him in death. Peter died of heart disease at Jaryi Rest Home in Seattle on December 11, 1960. Surviving him are his wife Inga; three daughters, Beatrice Hegseth, Mrs. Donald (Marjorie) Stotts, of Seattle, WA, Mrs. Sydney (Charlotte) Johnson, Santa Monica, CA, and two sons, Thornton Hegseth and Maynard Hegseth, also of Seattle; a brother, Nels (Betsy) Hegseth, and two sisters, Mrs Christina (Peter) Moen and Mrs. Petrina (Peter) Fjestad, of Fergus Falls, MN; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was cremated.
