Albert J. Balken, 28, from here in the city, (Fergus Falls) died at Thomas Hospital in St . Paul, Hennepin County, last Sunday of Tuberculosis. The deceased was born by rural Rothsay.  He moved with his parents to Fergus Falls in 1908, when he was 15 years old.  He left home at 17.  At the age of 20, he enlisted in WWI and during his military service is where he contracted tuberculosis that would end his life.  For a time he stayed in a hospital in New Mexico, then in the Sanatorium at Otter Tail Lake and then to St. Thomas Hospital in Hennepin County.  That is where he died. The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John (Mathea) Balken, who now lives in the Town of Friberg.  He is survived by his  siblings:  Mrs. E.O. Flatin (Caroline) Rothsay; Mrs. David Zimmerman (Martha) Kensal ND; Julius (Emma) Balken, who lives on the home farm; Mrs. P.T. (Inga) Hegseth, Rothsay; Mrs. D.E. (Helga) Strass, Aurdahl (rural Fergus Falls); Edwin (Ida) Balken, Fergus Falls; Oscar (Mary) Balken, rural Fergus Falls, Mrs. A.M. (Alice) Erickson, not Anderson; Clara Balken, at home. and Ted Balken, Spokane, WA.
