Peter was the second of 12 children born to Henry and Katherine (Sutter) Kossow. Born in Wisconsin, he moved with his family to Deer River, Minnesota in 1902. In 1905 he married Lena Zupan, daughter of John & Helena Zupan, with whom he had 10 children.

OBITUARY - CHICO ENTERPRISE-RECORD, August 15, 1971: "Peter Kossow. Funeral services for Peter Kossow, 87, of Stanford Road, Durham, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chico Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard H. Tietzen of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Paradise will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Chico Mausoleum. Kossow died Sunday in Oroville.

"Kossow was born April 10, 1884, in Alma, WI. He moved to California in 1941 and resided in Gridley prior to moving to Durham. He was a retired dairyman.

"He is survived by a son, John Kossow of Watsonville; six daughters, Evelyn Beers of Durham, Leona Martin of Monte Rio, Lena Hart of Duluth, MN, Marie Evans of Ball Club, MN, Louise Myers of Deer River, MN, and Margaret Rollins of Fort Yukon, AK; four brothers, Archie of Paradise, Ernest of Gridley, Herman of Bloomington, MN, and Carl of Bove, MN; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

"Pallbearers will be Eddie Martin, Warren Bowden, Caroll Taresh, Tommy Kossow, Fred Kossow and Hal Nielson."
