Jules was the eldest of five children of Cleophas Dufour (1852-1890) and Caroline Tassin (1858-1934). He had three sisters (Maria Alida, Annie Lou, Marie Aline) and one brother (Jean Baptiste Wilmore). Jules was baptized Feb. 11, 1877 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moreauville; sponsors were Ludger Guillory and Almida Dufour; the pastor was the Rev. P. E. Simon (Baptism Books, line 283).

Jules is often conflated with others by the name who lived in the area and were his age mates. He is not the Jules Nicaise Dufour who married Therese Tassin and died on 23 Dec. 1959 in Mansura and he is not the Jules Arnaud Dufour who died at age 81 in Simmesport in 1957.

Jules appears with his parents Caroline and Celophas Dufor in the 1880 census at age 4 and again in the 1900 census with his mother Caroline and his stepfather Edward Segrue; in this census his birth date is clearly given as Dec 1877 but his actual birth year was 1876, as his baptism record proves.

These are his last verified appearances in censuses. He is not the single man, a boarder, who lives and farms with the Rodrigues family in the 1910 census of Jury Ward 7, Avoyelles Parish. This Jules is the son of Leonard Felix Dufour and Eliza Kimball, who is also the single man boarding with the Pickles family in Alexandria, LA in 1920 and working as a boiler maker.

A Jules Arnaud Dufour appears in a registration for the draft at age 42 on 12 September 1918 in Alexandria, LA. That card gives his birth year as 1875 and his birth date as 7 Dec. which are both remarkably close to the dates for the son of Caroline Tassin Dufour and Cleophas Dufour but this Jules Arnaud names his nearest relative as Felix Leonard Dufour in Simmesport. He lives at 1340 Gould Avenue in Alexandria and works as a machinist's helper for the New Orleans Pacific Railroad. He is the son of Leonard Felix Dufour and Eliza Kimball mentioned above. The June 1957 death record in Simmesport for an "A. Dufour" is also this son of Leonard Dufour and Eliza Kimball.

Jules' death date and burial place are not known. An obituary published in Alexandria indicates that "A. Dufour," born about 1876, died on June 8, 1957 and is buried in Moreauville and this is also a record for Leonard Dufour's son Jules Arnaud. But the Jules who was a son of Caroline Tassin and Cleophas Dufour has many kin buried there and was also baptized at Sacred Heart. In a final entanglement of records, Leonard Oge Dufour (1855-1931), who died in Marksville, had the son named above - Jules Nicaise Dufour (1880-1959).
