Viscount Alexander Francis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Francis, was born at Dunbar, Neb., on December 4, 1880, and died at Belleville on July 29, 1949, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 25 days.
At the age of 12 years he became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church in Dunbar and continued his membership in the church until his death. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of Robert E. Gordon post No. 133 of American Legion and the Masonic lodge at Oberlin.
In 1902 he was united in marriage to Ella B. Warnock of Dunbar, Neb., and 10 children were born to this union.
In 1918 Mr. Francis moved his family to Kansas where he engaged in the mercantile business for many years, devoting tireless effort to the promotion of civic progress.
He found his deepest pleasure in his family circle, which respected him as a leader and loved him as a father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, his children, Mrs. Thomas Thomsen of Oberlin, Mrs. Russell Anderson of Belleville, Mrs. Howard Koehler of Klamaht Falls, Ore., Stewart H. Francis of Oberlin, Mrs. Louis Howe of Klamath Falls, L. Alexander of Hays, Harrison F. Francis of Fort Clayton, Canal Zone, Mrs. Clyde Graves of Belleville, Viscount A. Francis of Salina and Mrs. Frank Kennedy of Belleville; three sisters, Mrs. Sue Brassiard of Kansas City, Mo., Miss Nita Francis of Beloit and Mrs. Harry Marquardt of Avoca, Neb.; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 31 at the Presbyterian church in Belleville with the Rev. Stephen Yemm in charge. Interment was in Belleville cemetery.
