Just Jottings
First to land, in the invasion of France probably were three Pawnee county men. A press representative identified Cpl. Lester Beshears, of Larned, as the first paratrooper to land, it is known that two other Pawnee county men, Sgt. Beverly Manlove and PFG. David Bruden, were in the same paratroop unit.

Sgt. Beverly Manlove, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Manlove of near Larned, listed as dead. Reported missing in action June 6, 1944, while serving with airborne infantry in invasion of France.

THE DAILY TILLER AND TOILER
Sgt. Beverly Manlove, of the airborne infantry, who was reported missing in action June 6, 1944, is declared dead by the war department in a letter received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Manlove, south of Larned.
The letter from the adjutant general states Sgt. Manlove was a passenger aboard a C-47 (Sky-train) transport plane that participated in the initial airborne phase of the invasion of Western Europe. The plane was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire and when last seen was headed out to sea over the west coast of the Cherbourg Peninsula.
Sgt. Manlove was twenty-one years old. His wife is the former Virginia Lowrey, of Larned.

Beverly Charlene Manlove Voran shared the following: He was my father's younger brother. I was named after him.
