Brother Preston Allen, Sr., was born to the union of Nathaniel and Nancy Allen in Leflore County, Mississippi, on July 28, 1926. He was the fifth of eight children born to this union. His loving parents, Nathaniel and Nancy; a brother, Albert James, a sister, Luberta; and a grandson, Willie Nunn, preceded him in death.

Preston became a Christian at an early age having been baptized at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church at Morgan City. He began working dutifully, diligently and continued his dedication to his religious teachings and values.

On December 18, 1946, Preston married the girl of his dream, Vera Mae Givens. To their union was born four children: Preston (Lizzie) Jr.; Charles; Morris (Audrey); and Dorothy 'Jackie' (Walter). Although they were not biological parents, they were special parents to Etter 'Pookie' (Frank).

Preston moved to Belzoni, Mississippi with his wife and four children in 1951. He sought to find a church to satisfy the spiritual needs of his family. That church was Zion Rock Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful member, serving as a choir member, teacher, devotional leader, Sunday School superintendent, trustee, and deacon.

Preston loved singing and working with young people. He, along with his wife, Vera, organized the first Belzoni Youth Choir. The dedicated couple would transport children throughout Humphrey's County and surrounding counties singing of God's goodness. He has been a member and lead singer with the Humphreys County Layman Male Chorus since its first inception.

In 1998, Preston joined Weeping Mary Baptist Church in Isola, Mississippi, pastored by his son, Reverend Morris Allen. As a member of Weeping Mary, he continued his faithful service working for the Lord. He served on the Deacon Board Trustee Board Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School and Devotional Leader. He often would lend his voice to the choir as a soloist or lead singer upon request.

All who came in touch with him loved Brother Preston, our father. Whatever his chosen occupation, he was always seen going about his task with a friendly and endearing smile. Even those who did not know him personally came to know him as the man with the friendly, caring smile and beautiful white hair.

Preston leaves to cherish his loving memory a devoted wife and companion for fifty-five (55) years, Vera, whom he affectionately called 'Honey'; five children who adored and respected him; three brothers: Reverend John Q. (Earline) Allen, Sr. of Muskegon, MI; Frank Allen of Vicksburg, MS; and Nathan Allen, Jr., of Oklahoma City, OK; and two sisters, Naomi Pruitt of Chicago, IL; and blues singer, Ora 'Denise LaSalle' Wolfe of Jackson, TN.
