LAST RITES FOR NUSSBAUM TO BE SUNDAY

Service for War Hero to be from Methodist Church

Last rites for Loren Nussbaum, whose body was the first returned to Lucas county since the reinterment program was inaugurated, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the First Methodist church in Chariton.

The body will arrive here tomorrow at midnight from the Pacific coast.

Private First Class Nussbaum enlisted in the Marines Jan. 18, 1942, and died in action in Enewetak, Marshall Islands, Feb. 20, 1944. Just prior to the burst of fire that snuffed out his life, Nussbaum had been wounded and was attempting to aid in the rescue of his commanding officer when he was caught in the cross fire that closed his career.

Nussbaum was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferman Nussbaum of Chariton, and the surviving brothers and sisters are: Corwin, of Des Moines; Etha and Mrs. Wilma Gorog, of South Bend, Ind.; and Norma, of Chariton.

The service Sunday will be conducted by the Rev. J. T. Bloom, pastor of the Chariton Christian church, and a former army chaplain, assisted by Rev. W. E. Samp, pastor of the Chariton Methodist church.

The local posts of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will also have a part in the service.

Son of Ferman E. Nussbaum and Chloe Charity West.
