Funeral services for Judge Joe Minter, 78, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Lewis, the Rev. Henry Suche, the Rev. LaVelle Hendricks and State Rep. Mark Homer officiating.

Interment will follow at Pickton Cemetery
with Coy Johnson, Tommy Allison, Clyde Browning, John Hipkins, Joe Reid Scott and Stacy Loyless serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sulphur Springs Country Club golf buddies, Hopkins County Military Coalition, Single Action Shooters Society, V.F.W. members, Scott Ferguson, State Rep. Mark Homer and Dr. Charles Jones.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Judge Joe Minter passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at his residence.
He was born in Pickton on March 28, 1932, the son of Joseph A. Minter and Idabell (Templeton) Minter.
He married Dorothy J. Wright in Deport on Aug. 1, 1953. She survives.
Judge Joe Minter was a retired Hopkins County Judge. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was affiliated with the following organizations: Phi Delta Kappa; Kappa Delta Pi; Order of the Red Rose (an honor society for university professors); Who's Who, both as school administrator and university professor; National Retired Teachers' Association; Ark-Tex Council of Governments; Northeast Texas Rural Rail Transportation District; Hopkins County Historical Society Board of Directors; Farmers' Union; American Legion; and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as co-chairman of the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs. Judge Minter was a Fulbright Scholar. He reorganized the Meal-A-Day program. He organized the Hopkins County Military Coalition Honor Guard for deceased veterans. He was also instrumental in reorganizing rural rail service for Hopkins, Franklin, Titus and Hunt counties.
Other survivors include one daughter, Kay Hart and husband, Richard, of Snellville, Ga.; two sons, David Minter and wife, Sherry, of Richmond, Va., and John Minter of Williamsburg, Va.; one sister, Barbara Minter Shields of Grapevine; one brother, Thomas M. Minter of Rowlett; six grandchildren, Steve Minter, Paul Minter, Michael Minter and John M. Minter, David Hart and Sam Hart; one great-grandchild, Joseph Aaron Minter; two brothers-in-law, Leroy Wright and wife, Shirley, of Terrell, and James Roushey of Mesquite; one sister-in-law, Mildred Rogers of Paris; a special caregiver, Lisa Flecker; numerous nieces and nephews' and countless special friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ann Pleasant and Sally Roushey.
