George Robert Mabry, 94, a 5-year resident of Sachse, Texas, passed away August 12, 2017. Mr. Mabry previously lived in St. Louis, Missouri, St. Croix, Virgin Islands and Charleston, South Carolina. He was born June 7, 1923, in Spartanburg, South Caroling to George Dean Mabry and Kathleen (Johnson) Mabry. George was a faithful member of Ashley River Baptist Church in Charleston. His favorite hobby was playing golf, and he was an accomplished golfer, winning several tournaments. Also gifted as a watercolor painter, George was active in the Charleston Artist Guild. He was survived by his children, Bob Mabry and wife Suzette of Sachse, Texas and Cindy Zimmerman and husband Steve of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, Michelle Freeman and husband Scott of Tupelo, Mississippi, Dr. Robert Mabry III and wife Kirsten of Needham, Massachusetts, Matthew Holland and wife Stormy of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Macie Freeman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Gabbie Freeman of Tupelo, Lexie Freeman of Tupelo, Takoda Mabry, Violet Mabry and Skyler Mabry all of Needham, and Mabry Holland of Columbia; great-great-grandson, Barrett Brubaker of Tulsa, and numerous nieces and nephews, along with a host of loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elsie Scott Mabry; great-grandson, Michael Robert Freeman, and his two sisters and one brother.
