Entered into eternal rest on the evening of June 30, 2010, Elsie Scott Mabry, wife of George Robert Mabry. Residence, Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Mabry are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASLEY CHAPEL Saturday morning, July 3, 2010 at nine-thirty o'clock. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel this Friday afternoon from five until six-thirty o'clock.
Mrs. Mabry was born on December 3, 1923 in Spartanburg, SC, daughter of the late Homer Talmage Scott and Corinne Latimer Scott. Elsie Scott Mabry wrote under her maiden name Scott and was a free lance writer of scientific and religious articles.
Throughout her adult life, she taught science in the public schools and the Bible in church school. Mrs. Mabry received her B.S. Degree from Winthrop College, and her Master's Degree from Washington University, St. Louis.
She was a past president of the Lowcountry Branch of the National League of American Pen Women and was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of Charleston; daughter, Cindy Zimmerman and her husband Stephen of Winnsboro, SC; son, George Robert (Bob) Mabry, Jr. and his wife Suzette of Dallas, TX, sister, Virginia Ellis of Easley, SC; four grandchildren, Michelle Freeman and her husband Scott, George Robert Mabry, III and his wife Kirsten, Matthew Mabry Holland, Heather Holland; three great grandchildren, MacKenzie, Gabrielle and Alexandria. Mrs. Mabry was preceded in death by a great grandson, Michael Robert Freeman.
Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
