Sergt. William L. Floyd, young Memphis lawyer until his enlistment as a private in the United States Army April 1, was killed yesterday during Army maneuvers near Fort Bragg, S. C.

The First Army announced last night Sergeant Floyd and two other soldiers were killed when their army truck overturned near Pageland, S. C. The others were Thomas Beck of Chicago and Sergt. Robert Green of Whitney, S. C. All three died of fractured skulls, according to military police.

His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Floyd of 1388 Carr. Mr. Floyd is a deputy in the Circuit Court Clerk’s office.

A life-long resident of Memphis, Sergeant Floyd, who was 26, attended Catholic High School and Gulf Coast Military Academy near Gulfport, Miss., and later obtained his law degree from the University of Memphis Law School. He practiced law here for about three years before enlisting. In addition to his parents, he leaves three sisters, Miss Katherine Floyd, Miss Mary Elizabeth Floyd, and Miss Peggy Floyd; and two brothers, Charles W. Floyd Jr., and Leonard M. Floyd, all of Memphis.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete last night. The Memphis and Shelby County Bar Association will meet this morning at 10 o’clock in Division One, Chancery Court, for the appointment of committees to draw up appropriate resolutions on the death of Sergeant Floyd, Frank Gianotti, secretary of the associations, said.
