Memphis, TN - Mary Elizabeth "Melba" Floyd Longworth passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on February 18, 2016. She was born August 24, 1922, in Memphis, to Theresa Knaup Floyd and Charles William Floyd. She attended Central High School and graduated from Wiley's Business School. She worked at John Gaston Hospital as a secretary and then as a homemaker, where she was involved in church and other charitable activities. She served as president and treasurer of the Ladies of Charity, was cookie chairman for the Girl Scouts of America for many years, and served meals to the homebound. She was preceded in death in 2012 by her husband and soul mate of 60 years, John Andrew Longworth. They were very active at Immaculate Conception and St. Louis Catholic Churches before they retired to Destin for 20 years. They returned to Memphis five years ago to be closer to their family. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jenifer Singler, and son-in-law, Roland Raffanti II. She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Longworth of Austin, Texas, Peggy Strickland (Tony) of Cordova, Nan Miller (Tommy) of Collierville, 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, February 22, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 360 Bray Station Rd in Collierville with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. The family requests all memorials be sent to Concord Academy, 4942 Walnut Grove Rd, Memphis, 38117, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, 38105.
