Walter Ray "Bill" Stamper, Sr., age 60, of Wheelersburg, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at home.
Walter Ray Stamper, Sr. was born on March 13, 1952 in Pedro to the late Robert Stamper, Sr. and Eliza Small Stamper. Raised in Pedro, Walter graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1970. On November 11, 1972, he married Janice Hays, who survives. Into their union were born two children, Walter Ray, Jr. and Melissa Dawn.
Walter put his faith in Jesus Christ and trusted Him as his Lord and Savior. He attended Garden City Free Will Baptist Church in Wheelersburg and employed at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility for the past 23 years. Walter was an avid fan of the Wheelersburg Pirates and the Cleveland Browns.
Walter was also preceded in death by a son, Walter "Billy" Stamper, Jr. and a brother, Robert B. Stamper, Jr.
In addition to his wife, Janice, Walter is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Barry) Snyder of Wheelersburg, three grandchildren, Aidan and Adriana Snyder and Bailey Kaulitz, all of whom he dearly loved; three brothers, Stanley Stamper of Flatwoods, KY, George Stamper of Pedro and James Stamper of Franklin Furnace; seven sisters, Bernice Stephenson of Cincinnati, Edith Norris of Oak Hill, Geraldine Tate of Zanesville, Loretta Martin of Wurtland, KY, Alfreda Tackett of Denton, KY, Beverly Stapleton of Ironton and Katherine Noel of Kitts Hill; his mother-in-law, Wanda Carr of Wellington; sisters-in-law, Carol (Don) Corbin, and Julie (Eddy) Landers; a special aunt, Thelma Cole, and his special little companion, Furby Jo, and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Blaine Etterling officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Brant's in Sciotoville from 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Hemophilia Foundation.
