Actress. A versatile performer, she shall be remembered as a longtime star of the Argentine stage and screen. Born Agnes Ethel Ines Rojo Castro, she took to show business early, won several beauty contests while still a young girl, and after a screen test was hired by a Buenos Aires television station in 1954. Ethel spent the next five years as a dancer at the Maipo Theatre, made her 1955 silver screen bow in "Poor But Honest", and in 1959 left for Spain where she starred in a travelling revue entitled "Broadway Rhythms". She went to Hollywood for a brief time and was to be seen in two episodes of the "Boris Karloff Show" then after some television appearances in Mexico she returned to Spain where she headlined at the Martin Theatre. Over the next decade Ethel divided her time between Europe and Argentina, earned praise in the principal venues of Spain and Italy as well as at the famed Lido of Paris, and appeared in a number of movies including the 'spaghetti westerns' "Minnesota Clay" (1964) and the 1965 "Heroes of Fort Grant". Returning home in 1973 she starred in the popular revue "El Maipo Superstar", continued her movie work, became a regular on the Argentine small screen, scored a hit in the 1997 stage production "Poor Angels", and with time slowed her schedule. Ethel was honored with a 2004 gala commemorating the golden anniversary of her debut, earned her final credit with the 2009 "Luisa", and died following a long battle with multiple myeloma.
