Wayne Stonewall, 78, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at his home. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 3, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Following cremation, burial will take place at a later date.

Wayne was born September 29, 1932, in Gilman, Iowa, the son of Julius Bertram and Malene Marie (Brimso) Stonewall. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Gilman School System. Wayne met the love of his life, Donna while attending a Marshalltown Bobcat Football game. Wayne and Donna went on to be united in marriage on October 11, 1953, at the First Evangelical Brethren Church in Marshalltown. They went on to spend 57 years of marriage together and were blessed with five children, sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Wayne actively served his country for over four years as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War. A large portion of this time was spent aboard the USS Los Angeles. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Wayne returned to home to Donna at Marshalltown where they made their home. Wayne was employed for several years at Swifts until the time of his retirement. He also operated Champlain's Service, on the corner of State and 3rd Avenue in Marshalltown.

Wayne enjoyed people and can best be described as a "giver." He was always active and on-the-go. He liked to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs, fishing and playing Texas Hold-em with his buddies at their poker club. Wayne especially liked gardening, working in his yard and pulling weeds wherever he came across them. He spent countless hours volunteering his time and caring for and mowing several families' yards in Marshalltown and was currently employed with The Augustine Company as a maintenance man. Above all Wayne was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. The time he spent with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was absolutely the highest of his priorities as he never missed a game or activity.

Wayne is survived by his wife Donna of Marshalltown, his five children: Greg (Peggy) Stonewall of Marshalltown, Randy (Lori) Stonewall of Toledo, Su Pals of Marshalltown, Pam (Ed) Paone of Marshalltown and Tim (Jackie) Stonewall of Marshalltown, his five siblings: Vivian Brand of Marshalltown, Dale (Berniece) Stonewall of Cedar Rapids, Violet (Gilbert) Samudio of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Terry Stonewall of Cedar Rapids, Jerry (Patty) Stonewall of Seattle, Washington, his sixteen grandchildren: Erica, Wyatt, Luke, Ethan, Mitchell, Nick, Whitney, Cody, Jamie, Emily, Brandon, Tyler, Jacob, Jordan, Conner and Marriah and his three great-grandchildren: Jocee, Landon and Avery and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law Joe Pals, his siblings: Ozzie, Roger, Manley and Addison and a nephew, David.
