Vivian came into this world on June 21st, 1928, on the family farm near Gilman, she was the fourth of ten children born to Julius and Malene Stonewall. She graduated from the Gilman High School. Soon after, she came to Marshalltown and began employment at the Pickle Factory and Marshalltown Manufacturing.
On February 12th, 1948, she was united in marriage to Earl Brand in Liscomb, IA. They made their home on an acreage near Ferguson and later she lived at Green Mountain before moving to Marshalltown. When Vivian was 33 years of age, her husband passed away suddenly and she began life as a widow and mother of three children pre-teens.
Vivian enjoyed dancing, music, reading (especially mysteries) and gardening. Right up to her sudden passing she remained active.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Paula Brand of Marshalltown; her six grandchildren- Carlye Opperman, Marney (Tye) Medhaug and Kyle (Samantha) Opperman all of Marshalltown, and Chad, Dana and Jolene Elliott all of Fresno, CA; five great-grandchildren- Isaiah Opperman, Mady McDonald, Maisen Wilder, Maddox Wilder and Maximus Opperman; her brothers- Dale (Berniece) Stonewall of Cedar Rapids and Jerry (Patty) Stonewall of Palos Verde, CA, her sister Violet Samubio and a plethora of nieces and nephews.
In death, Vivian rejoined her beloved Earl who died in 1963, son David in 1999, daughter Sheila Thatcher in 2015, son-in-law Billy Thatcher in 2018, and brothers Adison, Ozzie, Manley, Roger, Terry and Wayne.
