Funeral services were held this morning at 9 at St. Alphonsus Church for Arthur Bailey, 82, one of Tupper Lake's pioneer settlers, who died Tuesday morning at 2 o'clock at 12 Demars blvd. Interment was in St. Alphonsus cemetery here.
Mr. Bailey had been confined to bed by illness for the past five weeks.
He was born at Roberval, P.Q. on August 6, 1864, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Bailey, and came to Tupper Lake among the early settlers, 56 years ago. Fifty-four years ago he was married here to Miss Catherine Campeau, who died here in 1908. In 1910 he was married again, to Mrs. Sarah Morin, who died here nine years ago.
Mr. Bailey was employed for many years as a millwright for George McCoy, at Underwood. He worked also as a carpenter for several local contractors, and in more recent years was in the employ of the late W.D. Wilson. Six years ago he moved to Montreal where he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lucien Cerat, He returned to Tupper Lake to visit relatives here on July 11.
