SSgt Miller was an enlisted pilot in the 173rd Liaison Squadron. On July 25th, 1945 he and a civilian passenger, Miss Elizabeth Richardson, departed Le Harve for a flight to Paris in a L-5 two seat airplane. Miss Elizabeth Ann Richardson was a member of the USO and had been called to Paris to attend an important meeting on short notice. SSgt Miller gladly offered to give her a ride. Shortly after taking off the plane crashed and caught fire while trying to avoid low clouds. Both Miller and Richardson were killed instantly. Richardson is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and SSgt Miller is buried in the row behind her.
