Herndon "Duke" Dhom, 87, of Vinton, CA passed away on June 16, 2009 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Reno, NV. Duke was born November 25, 1921 in Illinois.


He proudly served in the US Army Corp of Engineers in the South Pacific during W.W.II. He was the owner of the JD Trailer Ranch in Vinton, CA where each year he put up the beautiful Christmas lights. He retired from the Northern NV Carpenters Union Local 971 in 1983, after being a carpenter in the Reno area for over 30 years. About 20 years ago he found an interest in Hot Air ballooning and hosted many balloon parties.


Duke is survived by his wife, Mary Duncan; step- sons, Larry Duncan of Auburn, CA and Robert Parrish of Tacoma, WA; sister, Betty Ramelli of Vinton, CA; brother, Robert Dhom; sisters, Genevieve Shryock and Judy Huitt of Illinois; sister-in-law, Frances Dhom of Tennessee; many nieces and nephews.


A Memorial Mass is going to be on Saturday, June 20, 2009 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 613 Fourth St. Loyalton, CA 96118.
