Plymouth, Michigan-Mary June Ochs, age 80, of Plymouth, Michigan, formerly of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away at 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2008 at her home in the Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Community. The funeral mass in her honor will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Reverend Dennis Kollross officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.


Mrs. Ochs was born August 19, 1927 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of John H. and Ruth (Miller) Dhom. She married Robert Charles Ochs on November 28, 1946 in Newton, Illinois. He passed away September 9, 1997.


She is survived by their children, Barbara Lowry of Livonia, Michigan, and Michael Ochs of Westland, Michigan; two brothers, Duke Dhom and wife Bobbie of Vinton, California, and Bob Dhom of Newton, Illinois; three sisters, Genevieve Shryock of Newton, Illinois, Betty Ramelli and husband Ted of Vinton, California, and Judy Huitt and husband Larry of Petersburg, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Frances Dhom of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and two granddaughters, Angela Schulz and husband David of Westland, Michigan, and Amy Morelli and husband Henry of Livonia, Michigan. She leaves five great grandchildren, Nick, Jake and Rachael Schulz of Westland, Michigan, and Ben and Sami Morelli of Livonia, Michigan.


In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ochs was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Dean Dhom; and her son-in-law, Dennis Lowry.


Mrs. Ochs graduated from Willow Hill High School. She later attended Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston. She was a school teacher in Mattoon for more than 35 years at what began as St. Joseph's School and later became St. Mary's School.


She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mattoon where she was once very involved. She had participated in Children's liturgies, had served as Eucharistic minister, and had served as sponsor for several confirmations.


June enjoyed her involvement with her church, but also treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a special person with an incredible love of children.
