Newton and Nellie made the trip after Newton's father in 1900 to Cheyenne in a covered wagon. Upon arrival in Cheyenne during the evening they stopped at Milo Bulingame's saloon for directions. As Newton reached the door a shot rang out and a man fell through the door at his feet. Newton returned to the wagon and told Nellie they could find the way to Peter's house without directions.
Newton and Nellie had 6 children and lived in Oklahoma within 3 miles of Dempsey Cemetery where they are buried.
