Son of Archibald Horace Lawler & Americus Polk Lawler. John had 7 brothers Jesse, James, Robert, Charles, Albert, Horace and Floyd. 3 sisters Sally, Bertha and Leola.
Married Letha Lavada Hodges on August 8, 1912 in Lofton, Garland, Arkansas. They had 4 boys Liberty, Jack, Elbert and Donald and 4 girls Sadie, Doris, Mary and Freeda.
They came to California during the dust bowl. John and Letha played extras in the movie "Dodge City" that stared Errol Flynn & Olivia Havilland in the 30's. They earn enought money to buy proptery in the area of Modesto's "Beard district". They live in a tent while building their home. They also built several rentals on the property.
John died in Arkansas but is buried next to his wife in California.
