Philippe Jean Pelletan was a french doctor who removed the the heart of Louis-Charles, son of the King of France Louis XVI. During the french revolution Louis-Charles was imprisoned with his parents. He was held at the prison of La Temple in Paris to prevent monachists to free the little boy. Louis-Charles died in La Temple and during the autopsy on his body Pelletan was able to remove his heart and smuggled the heart out of the prison. The Dauphin was buried in a mass grave in Paris. The heart changed hands many times. First it was stolen by a student of Pelletan who confessed on his deathbed. The student's wife gave the heart to the archbishop of Paris were it stayed until the revolution of 1830. But at last the heart came back to Paris were it was kept in the Saint Denis Church. Prof. Cassiman of the university of Louvain (Belgium) could prove with a DNA test that the heart kept in the Saint Denis church is of a member of the Bourbon Family and concluded that the heart belonged to the Dauphin of France
