Winnie Estelle Kerley Lauderdale, daughter of Joseph Ancil and Julia Austin Kerley, was born December 25, 1891, in Johnson County near Simpson, Ill. She died at Saint Francis Medical Center, Cape Girardeau, Mo., December 29,
1980 at the age of 89 years and 4 days.

Winnie entered first grade at McKee School in Johnson county, later moving to Pope county, where she completed her formal education at Rock school. On December 9, 1917, Winnie Estelle Kerley was married to Thomas Ado Lauderdale at the home of the bride’s parents. To this union were born: Kathleen, Kenneth and Eugene.

Approximately 45 years ago Winnie professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Mt. Zion Baptist church where she remained a faithful member until her death.

Winnie'’s life was devoted to her family, home, church and community. Her passing leaves a vacancy that can never be filled. Winnie was preceded in death by Ado, her loving and faithful companion, who died May 17, 1952; a son, Joseph Kenneth, who died in infancy; her parents, and a sister, Nettie Anderson.

She leaves to mourn her passing a son, Eugene Lauderdale, Mounds, Illinois; a daughter, Kathleen Schoettle, Kingsville, Tex., a daughter-in-law, Bettye, Mounds, Ill.; a
sister, Missouri Cunningham, Bartonville, Ill.; six granddaughters: Phyllis Spencer, Denton, Tex.; Jean Ann McBride, Memphis, Tenn.; Mary Ellen Spellman, Robstown, Tex.; Marybeth Heineman, Jacksonville, Ill.; Julia Lauderdale and Alice Lauderdale both of Mounds, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-grandsons-in-law; several nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Mt. Zion Baptist church, with the Rev. Bill Christoff officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Mike McBride, Curt Heineman, Paul
Wright, Carl Chiles, Rayford Billington, and Jim Givens.
