She was married to Joseph A. Kerley, March 28, 1889 by Eld. Riley Tucker and died on their 40th anniversary. Three daughters were born to them, Mrs. Nettie Anderson, Mrs. Winnie Lauderdale and Mrs. Missouri Reames, all of Rock.
She was educated in the common schools of Pope County, attended summer Normal school at Old Grandpier, in this county. Early one morning after going to her school room, she was converted to the Christian faith. Later in life she joined the Mt. Zion Baptist church near her home. She was not permitted to attend church much, but said that she hoped people could tell that she was a Christian by her everyday life. She lived an exemplary life to the end.
Not only was she devoted to her husband and family but her sons-in-law have only words of praise for her. Her greatest happiness was in doing and sacrificing for her children and grandchildren.
Those who were left to mourn her passing besides her husband are the three daughters, two brothers, Milo, of Rock; Malachi of Carbondale; four sisters, Mrs. Lon Harper, Rock; Mrs. Ed Holt, Elgin; Mrs. John Story, Glendale; Mrs. Geo. Bateman, of Chicago; Shade and Missouri precede her to the great beyond.
She also leaves eight grandchildren: Lucille A. Morse, Rodney, Rachel, Randel, Rosebud and Joe Tom Reames, Kathleen and Eugene Lauderdale, two great-grandchildren, Lotelle Anderson and Kenneth Lauderdale, having preceded her in death. She leaves a host of relatives and friends.
