She was born October 2, 1939, in Mifflin County.
She is survived by one son, Richard K. Deen and wife, Juliana, of Port Royal, and one daughter, Sheree D. Seifert and husband, Steve, of Newport, five grandchildren, Rebecca K. Perry and husband, Matthew and William R. Deen, Alyssa M. Deen, Taylor N. Seifert and James H. Seifert and two great-grand sons, Dashel A. Perry and Arlo M. Perry. She is also survived by one brother, Charles A. Schell and wife, Lynn of McAlisterville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, W. Richard "Dick" Deen, on May 27, 1992, her parents, Homer D. and Beulah M. Schell, one sister, S. Arlene Wagner, two brothers, Richard E. Schell and Clarence E. Schell.
She graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1957 and Susquehanna University in 1961, majoring in Elementary School Music Education. Sandy was a talented musician who was a music and substitute teacher in the Mifflin Co. School District in the mid-70s. She was the pianist and organist for Ebenezer UM Church, Port Royal Lutheran Church and played often for the Brookline Village faithful when she was able. She also participated for many years in the Christmas Cantata held annually at Juniata High School.
She and her husband owned and operated the Pleasant View Store from 1977 to 1992 until Dick's passing when she was no longer able to sustain it. She supported her husband and later her son with the family farm, raising beef cattle, sheep and goats and later in life enjoyed raking hay during hay season. Her and Dick were avid supporters of 4-H, often purchasing 4-H pigs.
She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, attended the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and Port Royal Lutheran Church; was a member of Eastern Star Mifflin Chapter No. 260 O.E.S., and Spruce Hill Grange No. 772.
Arrangements were handled by Central Pennsylvania Cremation Society; condolences and memories may be left on their website.
