Korean and Japapnese royalty. Born Princess Masako Nashimoto, Yi Bangja was the wife of Yi Un of Korea. She was born into the Nashimoto family in Japan was a candidate to marry the Japanese Emperor, Hirohito, but she was later removed from the possible candidates because of her possible infertilely and her Family's weak influence. She was later chosen to marry the Korean Crown Prince Yi Un, Who was studying abroad at the time. in 1963 she moved to the Changdeok Palace along with her husband. Shortly after this Yi Un was taken to the hospital and remained bedridden for the rest of his life, causing Yi Bangja to become devoted to the education of physical and mental health. due to all her work in the education of the handicapped she earned the title "Mother of the handicapped in Korea". She died on the 30 of April, 1989 due to cancer and was buried in the Hongyureung Royal Tombs alongside her husband Yi Un.
