Surgeon. Son of Robert Gatherum, Dean of Concord College in Athens, WV, he was one of three physician brothers. A graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, he served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II at Keesler AFB on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Trained at the Bluefield Sanitarium under the legendary Dr. Wade St.Clair, he was a longtime highly respected surgeon there. Dr. Gatherum was a member of Bland Street UMC and was for many years the physician for the Bluefield High School "Beavers" football team. He died of heart disease.
