6 Dec 2006: Lee D. Peiffer, 92, Lebanon Valley Home, Annville, formerly of Lebanon, died Monday, December 4, 2006, in Lebanon's Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Mildred F. (Moyer) Peiffer, to whom he was married to for 62 years. Born in Lebanon August 21, 1914, he was the son of the late Harvey and Mary (Klahr) Peiffer. Lee was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II attending Officers Candidate School in Miami Beach, FL, receiving the rank of second lieutenant before earning the rank of captain. He retired in 1983 as the owner and operator of Peiffer's Foodland in Lebanon. Mr. Peiffer served for many years on the board of the former Sterling Wholesale Corp., United Associated Grocers, Lebanon Rescue Mission, Lebanon Valley Family YMCA, Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce and Salvation Army. He also helped to organize Hilltop Playground and served as its first president. He was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Lebanon, where he had served as an elder, deacon, and a Sunday school teacher. Lee was also a member of Gideons International. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Patricia, wife of John Beamenderfer of Fredericksburg, and Marjorie, wife of Brian Garrett of Carlisle; and one son, Robert of West Chester, OH; four grandchildren, Katie Garrett, Molly, Andrew, and Nicholas Peiffer. He was preceded in death by brother Eulan Peiffer, and sister Bertha (Peiffer) Schaeffer, an infant daughter; and an infant granddaughter. Funeral Saturday at the chapel of Lebanon Valley Home, Annville. Interment in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery with military honors. [Lebanon Daily News]
