Florence Virginia (Benchoff) Shank, 96, of Blue Ridge Summit, PA died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Monday, August 29, 2016. She was married to the late Eugene B. Shank on November 19, 1939. Eugene passed away on February 28, 2007 after they had been married for 68 years.

Florence was born December 18, 1919 in Blue Ridge Summit, a daughter of Harvey and Bessie (Harbaugh) Benchoff. She graduated from local schools and while raising her children on the mountain, she was active in girl scouts, garden club, school, volunteering, and both she and her husband were active in all aspects of Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church. She also eventually came to love the game of golf. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.

Florence is survived by her daughter Shirley Michaels and her husband, John, of Southbury, CT; her daughter-in-law Pat Shank of Blue Ridge Summit; her grandchildren Lynne Michaels Naughton and her husband Tom of Hanover, NH; Jonathan Michaels and his wife Covahne of San Francisco, CA; Brian Michaels and his wife Bridgette of Annapolis, MD; Jenni (Shank) Andes and her husband Chet of Fairfield, PA; Chris Shank of Blue Ridge Summit; her great-grandchildren Katie and Lia Naughton, Wheeler and Tavis Michaels, Dana and Lara Michaels, and Kenneth and Brooke Andes; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Kenneth Shank, and her sister Betty Jane (Benchoff) Fabrycki.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers and to SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice for their care and compassion.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 1, 2016, in Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, 14753 Charmian Road, Blue Ridge Summit, PA, with Pastor Carl Batzel officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfield Union Cemetery, Fairfield, PA.
