Clarence Mitchell was born May 31, 1910, in the Brinker Community, the third child of Claude and Myrtle Johnson Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell passed away at 5:23 a.m. Sunday, July 10, 2005 at his residence in Sulphur Springs. He will be remembered as a soft spoken, gentle man who loved his family, hunting and fishing. He was an accomplished "fiddle" player, once having played with "The Good Old Boys", later becoming famous as "The Sons of the Pioneers', of Roy Rogers fame.

Three wives preceded Mr. Mitchell in death, Neta Whitley, whom he married in Lovington, New Mexico, in 1936, Nora Jeannie Lee, whom he married in Big Spring, Texas in 1948. After her passing he married Grace Gilbert in Sulphur Springs in 1985, she passed away on December 1, 2004.

In his youth, Mr. Mitchell worked on farms and ranches in West Texas, when the family moved there in 1925. He was quite a cowboy. He could ride anything with four legs . . . except a little "trick" burro, which had been trained to throw his head back as soon as a rider would try to mount him. This sudden mouth full of donkey caused Mr. Mitchell to wear two gold teeth bridges, where his used to be, for the rest of his life. As a grown man, for many years, he labored as an oil field worker, a "rough-neck", becoming a painter in his later years. He served in the Pacific Theater, Korea, in World War II. He was a life time member of the V.F.W. in Sulphur Springs, Post #8560, and a member of the First Christian Church.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by son Charles M. "Bud" Mitchell and wife Janice and stepson Ed DeMuth, both of Sulphur Springs, grandchildren, Tina Mitchell Janes and husband James of Cooper, Rick Mitchell and wife Laura of Sulphur Springs, Amanda DeMuth of Como, Katie Pike, Mark Pinkston all of Lubbock, Texas, great-grandchildren, David Aaron Janes of Gilmer, Texas, Jonathan Michael Janes and Thomas Adam Janes, both of Cooper, Texas and Matthew Lane Mitchell of Sulphur Springs.

Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Arthur, Charles (Huck), Jack, Claude Jr., Homer and Bobby Mitchell, and one sister, Annie Laura Weaver and numerous nieces and nephews.
