Also lost were the pilot, Capt Robert W Hornbaker; Navigator, Lt Richard B Nilles; Bomber, Lt Carl A Gein; Radio, Sgt Edwin J Draney; Ball Turret Gunner, Sgt William J Harcher; and Nose Turret Gunner, Sgt Deneal Hoffman. Three others were taken prisoner. The plane was a B-24 Liberator, Serial 41-29412, nicknamed "Strictly from Hunger".
