His parents resided in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the time of his death.
He married Helen Elizabeth Thomas on 08 September 1943 in Fort Scott, Kansas.

Lawrence was a Staff Sgt during World War II and lost his life after his plane was struck by enemy fire May 25, 1944 at Cannes, France. His position was Waist Gunner-Mech AS. Also lost were the pilot, Capt Robert W Hornbaker; Navigator, Lt Richard B Nilles; Bomber, Lt Carl A Gein; Radio, Sgt Edwin J Draney; Ball Turret Gunner, Sgt William J Harcher; and Nose Turret Gunner, Sgt Deneal Hoffman. Three others were taken prisoner. The plane was a B-24 Liberator, Serial 41-29412, nicknamed "Strictly from Hunger".
