Born in Beaufort, NC., John Bond, Jr., entered the military as a Lieutenant in the Georgia Militia. He subsequently served as a Captain under General Andrew Jackson in military action against the Creek Indians in Alabama and in the War of 1812. Later promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, John Bond, Jr., served in the Mississippi Territorial Legislature from 1815-1817 and in the Mississippi State Legislature from 1838-1839. He married first Adelphia Batson (m. 1793, d. 1819) and had children Elisha, Russell, and Sermantha. He married second Elizabeth Wayles (also Wails) (m. 1821, d. 1834) and had son Carroll. He married third Sarah Ann Terrell (also Largent) (m. 1840, d. 1862) and had children Andrew Jackson, Seaborn and Lafayette. NOTE: Although the grave marker identifies him as "COL John Bond, Jr.," records indicate that his most senior rank was Lieutenant Colonel. He should not be confused with his father, COL John Bond., Sr. (1749-1837), who is buried in the Bond-Harvison Memorial Park in Wiggins, Mississippi.
