Barbara Fay McKay Smith completed her earthly life June 13, 2005, at her home in Provo, Utah. She was born in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Thomas E. and Fawn Brimhall McKay. She grew up in Huntsville, Utah, and attended Weber High School in Ogden, Utah, graduating from B.Y. High School. She spent two years in Switzerland where her father was mission president. Married Dr. Oliver R. Smith, a Journalism Professor. Worked for several Provo businesses: Taylor Brothers Department Store, Rowley's, Melayne Printers and two U.S. Government Census positions. Joined Utah Technical College (UVSC). Retired in 1985 as Assistant Dean of Continuing Education. Served on the Provo City Planning Commission and Board of Adjustments. Served on the Provo City Council for four years. A member of the Beta Sorosis Literary Club, BYU Women, the Republican Party and PTA.
Survived by five daughters and three sons: Barbara Kay (J. Howard) Rytting, Olivia Lea (Charles A.) Baird, Kenneth McKay (JoAnne King) Smith, Ronald McKay (Colleen Johnson) Smith, Rebecca (Richard L.) Snyder, Deborah Annis, Dorothy (John K) Gillespie, and Richard McKay (Cindy Naylor) Smith; 53 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren, and sister Louise McKay Card. Predeceased by her husband in December 1990, two sisters, Fawn McKay Brodie and Flora McKay Jensen Crawford; and a brother, Thomas Brimhall McKay.
Service held Saturday, June 18 at the BYU Harman Conference Center in Provo, Utah.
