Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014, at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, with the Rev. Keith C. Fair officiating. Burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery, Codorus. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Wise was born on July 9, 1921, in Codorus Township, a daughter of the late Paul L. and Lizzie A. (Grote) Miller.
She was self employed as a hair dresser for over 50 years, having owned and operated Avalon Beauty Salon in York.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, York, the Western York Democratic Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #7374. She enjoyed doing many different types of crafts, traveling, and she loved being with her family and especially her dog, Pixie.
Alverta is survived by a son, Marlin C. Bortner and his wife, Georgine of York; three granddaughters, Michele C. Trump and her husband, Jeffrey, Georgine M. Stauffer, and Lynn A, Moore and her husband, Todd; great-grandchildren, Chad Bish, Jeremy, Garrett, and Allen Stauffer, Kyra Forry, and Erika Harget; and great-greatgrandchildren, Levi, Samuel, Kendra and Landon. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Diana J. Bates; three sisters; and two brothers.
